Hi Tina,

After my husband and I became empty-nesters, we downsized our home, and I decided I’d do the cleaning in my new, smaller space rather than pay to have someone do it. The problem was, I wouldn’t do it consistently to keep up with it, which then meant I stressed out and added pressure to myself to get it done right before guests would come visit.

It took me twice as long to get it done and added more work than if I would have just decided to do it sooner or pay someone to help me.

When you have a difficult or stressful task or decision on your plate, it can be tempting to avoid completing that task. Or if you don’t like to think about a subject because of an experience, it can seem easier to just not think about that topic. Both situations are known as avoidance, and though it may be tempting to engage in this behavior, it causes more stress than it relieves.

Is there something you’ve been avoiding? If you’re avoiding something you’ve wanted to do in your business or career, I may have some ideas to help you get started. Let’s set up a short time to talk to see if you can avoid some stress, find a convenient time here

3 Reasons Avoidance May Be Adding to Your Stress

You Won’t Stop Thinking About It

If you’ve ever experienced trauma, it can be tempting to avoid all thoughts of things that may remind you of the trauma you experienced. Although this may be less painful in the short run, the truth is, long term, this will stress you out more because the thoughts of your trauma will always return until you genuinely learn to deal with them rather than avoid them. The same holds for certain physical tasks, such as investing in your business to take it to the next level, changing your career, or hiring help in an area you need support. I recently invested in my business in a few areas that I could do on my own, but realized by choosing to get help, I was able to accomplish more in less time, which took the pressure off.

You may put off making the decision because you don’t want to think about it, but this will only stress you out more because you’ll keep thinking about it instead of simply getting it done now. Does that sound familiar?
